What is Cellulite?
Most common in adult women, cellulite appears on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen in the form of lumpy, dimpled flesh. Cellulite develops through the natural aging process of the skin when Collagen levels decrease, elastin production stops, and Hyaluronic acid diminishes. Ultimately, this causes the skin to lose its elasticity and become more fragile. Factors such as lifestyle, diet, smoking, and sun exposure can all accelerate the normal aging process to prematurely age skin.
What is Profound®?
A non-surgical treatment to combat the appearance of cellulite, Profound® combines radio frequency (RF) energy with microneedling to create fractional thermal injuries within the skin, stimulating cell and tissue regeneration for smoother skin.

The Profound® Treatment Procedure
- A topical numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area, followed by an injection of numbing medicine.
- The Profound® device is passed over the treatment area.
- The needles of the Profound® device penetrate six millimeters into your cellulite and apply radiofrequency to subcutaneous fat.
- The resulting thermal treatment increases the production of Collagen, Elastin, and Hyaluronic acid to revitalize the skin and build new, healthy tissue.
Profound® Treatment Recovery and Results
You can expect some redness and mild soreness around the treatment area. These side effects usually last no longer than a few days. Following their appointment, patients usually return to normal routine, but are advised not to do any strenuous activities for at least 24 hours. If bruising or swelling develops, it should begin to fade within one to five days of treatment.
Your cellulite should start to diminish after treatment, and you should notice your skin developing a smoother, firmer texture over the following weeks and months.
Profound Treatment FAQ’s
How Does the Profound® Treatment for Cellulite Reduction Work?
Stimulating the production of the three important skin elements – Collagen, Elastin, and Hyaluronic Acid – the Profound® treatment awakens your body’s own natural healing process to create younger-looking skin.
How Long Is the Profound® Treatment?
The amount of time for a single treatment will depend on the size of the area to be treated. Most often, a Profound® treatment lasts for about an hour.
How Many Profound® Treatments are Needed to Eliminate My Cellulite?
Because many individuals notice a significant immediate improvement in the texture, feel, and look of their skin, just one Profound® treatment is possible. The exact number of treatments will ultimately be determined, however, by the amount of cellulite present, your body’s response to the treatments, and your desired results.
When Should I See My Final Results?
Most individuals who undergo a single Profound® treatment see noticeable improvements in cellulite reduction and skin laxity in about six months.
Is the Profound® Treatment Painful?
We use a numbing cream and numbing injection, so most individuals don’t find Profound® treatments to be painful. However, you may feel some mild discomfort during the procedure due to the microneedling or heated radiofrequency. If you’re worried about pain, ask Dr. Rapaport about taking an over-the-counter pain reliever prior to your treatment.
